For many years there were discussions of commissioning a statue of St. James the Greater, the patron saint of our parish. After Fr. Pucci’s death the committee, led by Tina Orsini, Rosina Ricci, Jeannie Paladino, Luigi Cipriano, Teresa Gigliotti and Antonietta Toscano, worked diligently for two years soliciting donations from local businesses and parishioners to erect the statue honouring St. James and in memory of Fr. Augusto Pucci, C.R.S.P. On November 2, 2014 the dream came to fruition at the unveiling and blessing of the statue by His Excellency, Bishop Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., D.D.
The project was successful because of the dedication and tireless efforts of many individuals. The bronze statue that now graces the front garden of our Church was manufactured in Verona, Italy. The base was constructed by the help of many individuals: Adamo Manes, Orazio Di Maria, Vittorio Simone, Franco D’Agostino. The cement was donated by Lee Rocca Forming. Installation of the Statue was provided by Oakview Funeral Home, Glen Oaks, Fabhaven Industries. The electrical work to light the statue was thanks to Carbone Electric and the landscaping was done by Earthly Creations.
In the next year, we are hoping to include a couple of benches to give community members a place to rest, reflect and meditate.
